Every visit to this nature reserve, located in the heights of the Golan, reveals a breathtaking blend of wild nature, stunning scenery, and rich history. These elements merge together to create an unforgettable experience, even on your tenth visit.

The sprawling reserve features family-friendly hiking trails that weave through the main points of interest, including the famous vulture nesting colony, the towering cliffs of Nahal Gamla, the ruins of the ancient city of Gamla, the ancient dolmens scattered across the area, and, of course, Gamla Falls, the highest perennial waterfall in Israel, standing at 51 meters.

Ceremony Venue – The Synagogue

Currently, the road to the ancient city is closed, so ceremonies can only be held at the lookout over the ancient city, not at the synagogue.

A review of Talmudic sources reveals that Gamla was mentioned as a walled city as early as the days of Joshua bin Nun. Many generations later, during the reign of King Herod, it was resettled by Jews, and in 66 CE, it raised the banner of revolt against the Romans, becoming famous for its resistance and the tragic battle fought there.

The city’s synagogue, likely the oldest discovered in the Land of Israel, was uncovered here. Built in the first century, this magnificent structure stood at the entrance to the city. It’s hard to take your eyes off its remains, rooted in the heart of dramatic nature—could there be a deeper connection to the past, to nature, and to yourself?
