Journey Beyond the Walls: Masada’s Untold Adventures

Dive into the Masada Adventure, a fresh and distinctive journey that unveils the hidden treasures of Masada beyond its iconic walls. This unique trail grants adventurers a safe passage outside the fortress walls, leading them to archaeological wonders that have remained untouched and inaccessible due to their remote locations. To ensure a safe and exhilarating experience, we’ve designed a challenging pathway along Masada’s cliffside, equipped with ladders and handholds. All participants are securely harnessed and helmeted, tethered to a safety line throughout the journey. As you traverse this path, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas, starting with the rugged beauty of the Judean Desert and culminating in panoramic views of the Dead Sea.

Please be advised that access to this trail requires prior coordination and payment. It’s an experience tailored for the adventurous at heart and is suitable for children aged 10 and above. The trailhead is situated on the southern plateau of Masada.

Getting to the trail is part of the adventure! Choose from the Roman Ramp Trail (a 40-minute trek from the main entrance), the Snake Path (approximately a 90-minute hike from the entrance), or opt for the Cable Car Ride (a swift 5-minute journey followed by a 15-minute walk to the southern plateau, marking the commencement of the adventure).

To ensure a seamless experience, we recommend planning your journey in advance, especially considering potential wait times during peak hours. For those opting for the Snake Path, please note its summer operating hours (closed post 8:00 AM). Reservations for both the cable car and your chosen path are essential. We suggest arriving at the trail’s starting point 15 minutes prior to your scheduled activity to fully soak in the breathtaking surroundings. And after conquering the heights of Masada, why not immerse yourself in the mesmerizing night spectacle, “Masada: From Dusk till Dawn”? Conclude your day with a serene overnight stay at the Masada West Campground…

When? Embark on this journey on Fridays and Saturdays during the cooler morning hours. Group bookings for alternative days can be coordinated upon request. For detailed inquiries, please reach out to us at masadaevents@npa.org.il.

Activity Price

An additional fee of ₪40 (Israeli Shekels) on top of the site’s entrance fee.

Please note that the fee for the Masada Adventure is separate from the entrance and cable car charges. Before embarking on the trail, participants will undergo a detailed briefing. In the meantime, we recommend watching our short explanatory video about the trail (link coming soon). For your safety, participants will be provided with essential gear, including a harness and helmet.

Please make sure to return the equipment at the start of the trail upon completion. Failure to return the equipment will result in a penalty of ₪500.
