Import of Ornamental Saltwater Fish

🐟Black list:

List of fish prohibited for import, commerce and possession in Israel.

Species not included on the Black List are permitted for import, after a permit is issued by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.

Note the comments at the end of the Black List, which are an inseparable part of it!

🐟Application process:

1. You must first obtain a permit for commerce through the permits portal to register as an authorized importer by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
2. Along with obtaining the permit for commerce, you must email a typed application to import@npa.org.il. Attached is the import application permit. There is no need to fill in the names of the species: write only “fish.”
3. Assessment and issuing of the permit will take up to 30 days.
4. An import permit for fish does not require payment of a fee
5. An import permit for fish may be used multiple times and is valid for six months. You may import from all permitted countries with no limitations on quantities.
6. After you receive your import permit, contact the Fishing Department of the Ministry of Agriculture to determine whether an additional permit is needed: shadyik@moag.gov.il.
7. Forty-eight hours before the shipment arrives, you must inform the INPA’s representative by email or text of the flight details of the shipment. Contact information appears on the permit.
8. After the shipment arrives or the permit expires you must report to the permits department on the quantities that were actually imported (and also report non-use of the permit).
