Sussita (Hippos) National Park

Sussita (Hippos) National Park is situated on a hill on the slopes of the Golan Heights east of the Sea of Galilee and opposite Kibbutz Ein Gev, preserves magnificent remains of the ancient city of Hippos (“horse” in Greek), and in Hebrew, Sussita (sus means “horse” in Hebrew). The ancient city, whose name connotes it had a connection to horses, developed in the Hellenistic period (beginning in the 300s BCE), reached its zenith in the Roman–Byzantine periods and continued to exist after the Muslim conquest, until it was destroyed by a major earthquake in 749 CE. After that, the site was abandoned and never resettled.

Tel Dor National Park

A unique site on the coast with a breathtaking view, nature and heritage, land and sea, and a rich past and present. On a tour of Tel Dor, the ancient port city, you’ll discover many interesting elements – the sea and the people who chose to live near it, the importance of preserving the heritage of the past and the task of protecting our marine and coastal environment. With one foot in the past and one in the present, you’ll walk along the beach through a beautiful inlet. You’ll ascend the kurkar (calcareous sandstone) ridge and discover the fascinating history of the port city of Dor, where more than 20 shipwrecks have been found, and you’ll discover the richness of the marine reserve today.

Please note:

• No entrance fee to the national park.
• The beach is not an officially declared bathing beach. Bathing is prohibited.

Khan Sha’ar Hagai National Heritage Site

Khan​ Sha'ar Hagai National Heritage Site, also known as Bab el-Wad, is a national memorial site. The khan, which was built as a wayside inn during the Ottoman period, is situated in the narrow opening of Wadi Nahshon on the main road connecting the lowlands with Jerusalem. This road saw fierce battles during the War of Independence, and in memory of the men and women who took part in them, a heritage center was established in the khan, dedicated to those who broke through the road to Jerusalem.

Please note:

• The visit is recommended for visitors age 10 and above.
• This is a memorial site and therefore picnics are not allowed. Bicycles and similar vehicles are not allowed.

Migdal Tsedek National Park

Migdal Tsedek National Park is an essential green lung in central Israel. You’ll find open spaces of nature and landscape in the park, as well as heritage thousands of years old. At the top of the hill, with its controlling view of the Afek Pass on the Via Maris (“Way of the Sea”), is an ancient fortress that you can visit. Around the fortress are walking trails among rehabilitated quarries alongside lime kilns, revealing wonderful scenic views.

Please note:

• Do not light fires and do not use barbecues
• Migdal Tsedek National Park is still in the process of development. In the future, additional walking trails and visitor sites will open as well the rooms on the second floor of the fortress.

Hai Ramon

Hai Ramon is a living desert park where small animals that play an important role in the desert ecosystem can be seen in their natural habitat, animals that you wouldn’t ordinarily encounter on a hike. There is also a botanical garden here with six different habitants typical of the Negev Highlands. Part of the garden serves as a refuge garden for endangered species.

Yarkon National Park – Tel Afek area (Antipatris)

The Yarkon National Park is divided into two parts: Tel Afek area (Antipatris) and the Yarkon Sources area, Together they constitute a green lung and an island of tranquility in the middle of the most populated region in Israel. In this beautiful and tranquil national park you’ll find the clean Yarkon Stream with abundant water lilies, a wading pool, a charming lake and an ancient fortress with a controlling view of the region.
