At certain moments, when the sun’s rays align just right and your gaze meets the landscape from the perfect angle, this space appears like a natural painting from another era. Nestled in the heart of the pastoral landscapes of the Galilee Mountains and the Bar’am Forest Nature Reserve lies a small, almost “boutique” national park, featuring a magnificent stone synagogue from the Talmudic period. Spanning 28 dunams, the park offers glimpses into the past, housing structures whose state of preservation is considered rare. The entire scene exudes grandeur and splendor.

Ceremony Venue – The Ancient Synagogue

Following the Bar Kokhba Revolt, there was an unprecedented flourishing of synagogues in the Land of Israel, and without a doubt, one of the most impressive awaits you here, where a Jewish settlement thrived during the Mishnah and Talmud periods. The grand synagogue is built from impressive ashlar stones, a testament to the strength of the Jewish community that existed here in the 4th and 5th centuries. Its intact facade features three gates facing Jerusalem. The entrances are adorned with beautiful stone carvings, and above the central doorway, you’ll find a lovely wreath of branches. Inside, partially restored, stand stone columns that complete this majestic scene.

How to Get There

Bar’am National Park is located off the Northern Highway (Route 899), between Kibbutz Sasa and Kibbutz Bar’am, about half a kilometer from the junction with the new Northern Highway (approximately 3 km east of Hiram Junction).
